But assuming some aspect of life is about self improvement and learning then this "selfish" approach has one major drawback - you cannot learn from teaching others because you dare not pass on your wisdom and experience. You fear your pupils will take your lessons to heart and will supplant your position as top dog.
Well one day they may do and that's life. But passing your knowledge and experience onto others not only enhances the common good of whatever organisation you work for, it also consolidates and improves your own understanding. Collating and articulating what you know is one of the best ways of finding out if you really know it in the first place.
