Often the "what goes wrong" may not be your or perhaps anyone's fault as such. A combination of circumstances result in a project not working on time and to budget.
A very natural tendency in these situations is to try to blame somebody, or some other corporate division for the problem. Whilst perhaps satisfying and a way to impress upon fellow workers lessons learned so the error or mistake is never repeated, this is a completely futile approach in terms of solving the immediate crisis the individual or organisation finds itself in.
Difficult though it may be by far the more effective reaction is to determine how to solve the problem and maybe even turn it to your advantage. See the section on Problem Solving.
This requires a different and very positive mindset to achieve. It means forgoing the temptation to caste around for a victim to blame and instead forcing everyone involved to look for a solution. It is surprising how powerful just one person saying "OK it's happened. That's life. Now what are we going to do about it?" can be. Instead of everybody taking defensive positions suddenly they are looking for a way forward.
