I was buying two tickets for a train journey - one for the car park and one for the train. The car park ticket went in the car and I took the train ticket with me. I had had a frustrating drive to the station stuck behind a tractor. As I returned from a local shop to catch the train something made me double check. I had placed the wrong ticket on my car windscreen.
Almost always when I reread an email or check an attachment I find some small error. I remember being close to the signing of a major contract when the lead negotiator asked us to check the price again. It was wrong. Sometimes it is just a feeling and sometimes a methodical approach that picks up these things.
Whatever your profession or work I recommend this useful habit. You may think it is fine but in any work output there is always the possibility of a major or minor mistake, especially in this day of instant electronic communication by email and IM. A few moments double checking can save embarrassment at least and possibly avoid a major problem.
