A famous football manager newly appointed to a large English club said one of his problems was that his squad wasn't balanced. Essentially he had too many strikers and not enough defenders. And this is not about the eleven players in the starting line up. The premiership clubs have fifty or sixty players in their first team squads.
The same is true of a team in business environment. It's all very well having ten charismatic outgoing business leaders in a team of twelve but that team has no chance because nobody will actually do the massive amount of work they bring in. They will have nobody to lead and will probably end up arguing among themselves
The quiet more studious person in the corner may if asked have the answer to a question to a vital and difficult dilemma. But only if he or she has been employed in the first place instead of another leader.
So thinking about and achieving a balanced team in sport and in business is vital to the ultimate success of the venture.
