However the day to day pressures of many of our jobs makes this very hard to do in our work lives - and often as a consequence our personal lives .
There are ways to so this. When I go to a seminar or management briefing or kick off event - anything out of the office and my normal routine - I try to use the opportunity to look out for new perspectives - for the "learning moments". I find these come if I stand stand back from the ordinary routine and just focus on the event. Forget texts, email and IM's for a while and just think about what is being said and consider what I can learn that applies to me. I try to make short notes to capture these lessons. The key I think is to have an open mind and to be receptive and to make the sessions relevant to your life.
