However the more of these I do the more I realise that it's not just about reaching the finish line.
In any professional advisers career spanning thirty or forty years there can only be a finite amount of such transactions one individual can be involved in. Each one will have its different challenges and rewards.
I have come to understand that what matters in real terms is not just getting to contract signature or whatever the conclusion is. Rather it is the opportunity to be involved in and a part of a team effort often over many months to deliver something complex and difficult like a major outsourcing contract or a large corporate deal.
The art is to learn to appreciate the journey as well as the arrival. That makes the whole experience more rewarding, helps to keep things in perspective and ultimately enables a better more balanced contribution to be made to the project.
