Gaining Perspective
I have found that gaining a proper perspective in my work and personal life can be really difficult to achieve and to sustain. Sorting out what matters from what does not and behaving accordingly is truly challenging. And this challenge does not seem to diminish with age and experience as you might expect. Perhaps what I have gained is some hooks onto which to hang events, some guidelines to work by and to resort to in order to see things in their true perspective.
In order to capture my own thoughts and experience on this I have written a book called One, Two, Three, Four in which I seek to distill what lessons I have learned. The book develops my perspective from a near disaster in a plane crash to overcoming personal challenge to a philosophy of living based on this perspective.
Here is a quote from the introduction:
"The inspiration for this work came from personal experience. There is no sterner test or litmus paper by which to measure and learn from our daily lives. I firmly believe life is an opportunity, a gift of which we should make the most. Too often our busy technology driven culture with its strenuous personal and working agendas camouflages this simple truth. In my life certain events over the last decade that have happened to me and my family or which I have observed have given me a sense of perspective and a purpose I would like to share with anyone willing to listen."
I do not claim to be unique in having potentially life changing experiences but I have tried to give expression to these and would encourage readers to do the same by submitting a comment on the form below.

Personal Examples
I would just refer again to my book One, Two, Three, Four where I have tried to set out experiences that have given me perspective.
