Consultant with extensive IT legal experience providing business and strategic advice, training and support.
Experience and Services
I am an information technology (IT) and outsourcing lawyer and consultant who has benefited and learned from working in-house for global companies and as a partner in London law firms.
I have been privileged to be a past Chair and am currently a Fellow and Leading Accredited IT Lawyer of the Society for Computers & Law (SCL), and was a past Chair of the In-House Counsel Committee of ITechLaw.
This extensive experience means I can in particular provide:
For some examples of the consultancy services I can provide please see Service Products. These can be adjusted to specific requirements. They include:
I can also provide tailored training on a variety of topics related to professional services and contracting for information technology. For specific training services I have designed and can provide please see Training Products. These can be adapted through co-creation to your specific needs. They include:
I assist customers and suppliers improve the chances of successful deals by providing Strategic Contract Advice and Deal Structure Support helping in the initial stages of planning and structuring outsourcing, commercial or corporate transactions which always pays dividends in the long run.
The information on this site distils good practice from working as a lawyer in industry and in private practice and presents solutions in a succinct way by reference to my professional experience in conjunction with management and personal development theory and practice.
My personal strapline after many years of experience as a business lawyer is:
"There is a solution to every business problem - you can negotiate anything with anyone - provided it is legal and ethical."
Conflicts and disputes are inevitable, but they are also a last resort and damage hard won relationships.
A recurring theme for me is how to solve work and private problems and experience life to the full. It's pointless spending long hours at work if we are not enjoying it and getting the most we can out of life in a professional context. In my view this not only improves our quality of life but enhances our performance in our working worlds.
I recommend my blog Thoughts of the Week where I set out ideas and issues that reflect this approach and these themes on a regular basis. These are also available on LinkedIn under the strapline Walk the Week. See for example my LinkedIn post Walk the Week - Knowledge Sharing and AI.
I have been privileged over the years to have been involved with writing and lecturing on IT and outsourcing law topics and am on the Editorial Board of Communications Law. In Published Articles I summarise some of the material I have been fortunate enough to have had published in various sources on IT contracting.
Please also read my book One, Two, Three, Four which develops my personal experience into a philosophy of living and working in the now.
The site addresses a number of topics including:
The sections discuss various issues and contain ideas and links to other useful sources as well as providing some personal examples and Top Tips.
